Identified Strengths: Some hard ware, Some talented students Identified Needs: Our focus needs to be on putting technology in the hands of the students and making classroom instruction interactive. This focus fits with the charge of this subcommittee which is designing curriculum. All other needs will follow from this such as:
Leadership that requires
teachers to implement tech integration
More consistent hardware
IT support services
Reliable building tech support
Better process for requesting hardware
What do we need as a committee to complete our task?
Exemplars of tech curriculum from other districts
NY and other states should be considered
Good representation on the subcommittee from various levels and stakeholders that can do the next step
A mechanism for bringing ideas to buildings and getting feedback along the way as we create a curriculum
Decide or clarify what are the components of a curriculum
(This format does exist in our district though that all other content areas have to use)
Connections between ISTE and NYS standards have already been made should be helpful
What will the product of this committee look like?
Will the product be assessment based?
Performance based assessment was suggested for the elementary school
HS folks felt this would be a “boggy “ area. Don’t want the tech to be a stand alone rather for kids to grow up to be a good digital citizen.
If we have a curric though…it has to be assessed.
We should focus on what we want them to know and be able to do at the end of their ICSD career.
Our group should not break up into different grade levels then reconvene. Rather start with exit outcomes and work our way back at least to get a general framework.
Once we decide or clarify what the components of a curriculum are, how do we hold people accountable for following it.
As a committee it looks like we devise a general framework using ISTE and NYS standards and the district format for curriculum.
Then the next phase would be to involve curriculum chairs and teachers in the content areas to help refine and specify how to implement the curric with in the content area curricula
